Upscale Instant Scrapbook for Kara's Baby Girl

 (pg 20 of 20)

Alas, we have come to the end of this instant scrapbook. The family has already begun taking and inserting pictures into this treasure.

This last page is where they will write reflections about the first year or a love note to their baby girl now turned 1. I love all of the whimsical animals on the nursery tails cart. And actually the whole scene was print and cut on the Cricut Imagine. To give the page interest, I perched each animal on foam tape which gives it height. I enhanced the title cut by adding stickles. Adding buttons to a baby layout is icing on the cake. The whole layout is attached to a paper lace scalloped page from HSN 3 birds on parade line called All Dressed Up.

With a little pen work to highlight the hills and valleys this quick layout is complete. I had lots of fun pulling all these layouts together to create a lasting keepsake for a close friend. I hope you enjoyed it too!

Upscale Instant Scrapbook for Kara's Baby Girl

(18 & 19 of 20 pages)

The first birthday layout is essential for any scrapbook detailing a child's year. Starting with the baby's birth and ending with their birthday is logically complete. This layout was built by me while in a class at the CKC Scrap 'n Play in Lancaster PA during Hurricane Irene. I was one of the brave folks who didn't care that they wind and rain was whipping and it looked like a scene from the birds outside the hotel windows. I couldn't have been happier scrappin' the weekend away! We learned how to make flowers from small strips of patterned paper and to combine several seeming unrelated stickers to create amazing elements on the page.

I love how cheery and light this layout is and how the accents correspond but don't overwhelm as we go from one page to the other. The beige strips of paper are spaces for journaling in short phrase format. This type of journaling ads depth, interest and whimsy to the page. I added some thickers chipboard letters, jolee's dimensonal stickers to complete the look.

What are your favorite birthday layout elements?

Upscale Instant Scrapbook for kara's baby girl

(16 & 17 of 20)

My newest layout obsession is Mosaic Moments http://wishinthewind.com/index.html grid paper which allows for perfectly spaced mosaics. I have been including a milestones layout in most of my instant scrapbooks. It requires a myriad of pictures highlighting the baby's first year milestones. While I have experimented with several types of layouts this one I love best. I learned this basic layout in the Mosaic Moments class at CKC valley forge.

I printed my own stone paper and grass paper with my Cricut Imagine Nature Cartridge. Using punches of various sizes I created the squares for the grid. I accented the pages with clues to the milestones with a tub and sneakers by Jolee's, a bib and baby food print and cut from the Nursery Tails cart, a baby and tooth cut from New Arrival.  I love how it came out!

I applied glossy accents to the bib and dipped it into Martha Stewart crystal fine glitter.

Upscale Instant Scrapbook for Kara's Baby Girl

(14 & 15 of 20 pages)

Unlike all of the other pages so far in this album, I actually designed this quick 2-page first Christmas layout. . It incorporates a few of my new favs...HSN's 3 birds on parade "all dressed up" die cut paper (which I cut in half to use on both sides of the layout) ,thickers chipboard letters, ribbon tape, red circular zings by Fiskars, a handmade flower accent created by one of my fellow Cricut Circle members. We had a flower swap and although I had not made any flowers she still gave me one of hers. It took me a year to use it, but now it has a wonderful home! A simple layout designed to focus on the family's pictures first and foremost.

Shout out to ScrapbookChris who gave me this lovely reindeer paper. I love it! She also sent me 20 lbs of patterned paper that my daughter and I had to share. My daughter is an avid artist who makes creations all her own every day. We loved her random act of kindness! Thanks so much!

I hope you are enjoying this album. Only 5 more pages... but they are NOT to be missed! Happy Holidays!

Upscale Instant Scrapbook for Kara's baby girl

(pg 12 & 13 of 20)

This cute layout was the result of a class I took at the CKC valley forge this past summer called Think Ink. We learned how to use simple, unrelated elements to create cohesivness in the layout, how to carry elements across the layout in different ways and how to successfully incorporate different patterned papers in the same layout.

Once back at home, I added embellishments to fit the baby theme of my dear friend's instant scrapbook. Unlike the other layouts in the album, these two pages do not correspond in terms of content. The left page is about the baby's trip home from the hospital while the right hand page is about the nursery that awaits at home. With plenty of room to journal on this layout, it will be a treasured keepsake for the Walker family.

Upscale Instant Scrapbook for Kara's baby girl

(pg 10 & 11 of 20)

This layout is one of my favorites! The reasons I love it so much are 1. It is not done in my usual style, 2. Black is the accent color, which is usually hard to do outside of halloween layouts 3. I learned how to make a border out of patterned paper and a new distressing technique. This layout was the result of a CKC Valley forge class taught by Embellish It!

In order to make this layout fit into the baby theme of the album, I add the title first visitors and the dimensional sticker flourish at the bottom right of the page. This layout will house all of the pictures of the baby's first visitors either at the hospital or at home. It's cheery, yet grounded. I like it a lot. I hope you do too.

Upscale Instant Scrapbook for Kara's Baby Girl

(pg 8 & 9 of 20)

This lovely 2- page layout will display the baby's first pictures post birth (which was yesterday by the way... Yeah!!!!!!) Chevrons are all the rage in scrapbook and card design this fall. It's the orange wavy line design. Also everyone's into baker's twine (the yellow string). I learned how to make the rosette embellishment (which was way easier to make that I could have imagined!) And how to make the most out of one piece of paper. The yellow scalloped paper was cut into 3 and used in 2 different areas of the layout. CKC Scrap 'n Play was fun. That's where I met 2 lovely ladies...(you KNOW who you are) who are now friends today. Scrap friends are the BEST friends! Shout out ladies ... and your creative mom too.

With the addition of birth related stickers to give the particulars of the birth and the needed foot and handprints (love bling) this layout is an instant winner with it's vibrant colors.

Upscale Instant Scrapbook for Kara's Baby Girl

(pg 6 & 7 of 20)
I learned how to make this 2-page layout in a Creating Keepsakes class called "Think Ink." Craft cardstock, the brown cardboard looking base layer is hot right now in scrapbook design and cards as well. We learned to I learned the masking technique used with stamps. To leave empty space in the middle of the image we applied painter's tape to the middle of the stamp, inked it and then removed the tape before pressing it to the page. Amazing! The result is at the top of the right page. I also learned how to carry over elements from one page to the other to create a continuous scene.

We used ink to set apart aspects of the layout. The ornate umbrella was cut from Cricut Cartridge Tie the Knot and I added some bling to make it stand out. The layout will highlight Kara's co-ed shower of family and friends.

Upscale Instant Scrapbook for Kara's Baby Girl

(pages 4 & 5 of 20)

The base design was created by Embellish It! In the class at CKC Valley Forge we assembled the left-hand page. The materials for the matching page were available for sale and I finished it at a later date. I learned how to hand-pleat ribbon on a page - a new skill for me. This layout will highlight the intimate friends baby shower  called a "blessingway." The beautiful ritualistic afternoon was filled with meaningful exchanges from the mom-to-be's nearest and dearest as she enters motherhood for the first time. Adding fabric flower stickers, and other birth-related embellishments focus the intent of this layout. I love the vibrant colors of the layout that can be used for spring or fall.

Baby Shower Invite for Kara

Simple, clean, classy design. I love how this baby shower invite came out! While I wanted to create a pink with pink on pink invite, my client mom-to-be did not love the pink idea but loved fall colors. After having a tantrum (literally) I settled down and created this one-of-a-kind masterpiece. The square invite was housed in a vellum envelope to complete the look. The iconic pregnant lady is cut from Cricut Cartridge Everyday pop-up cards, grosgrain ribbon from Stampin' Up! The brown, orange (bazzill cardstock) and yellow paper (astrobright acid free ink jet printer paper) were hand cut. The gold metallic cardstock gives the pregnant beauty her healthful glow. Patterned paper from my stash worked perfectly as her designer dress & shoes.

  • Brown layer - top 6 x 5" and the bottom 6 x 4"
  • Orange layer - 11 x 5 3/4"
  • yellow layer - 6 x 11"
  • score at 5" and 7 1/2"
  • pregnant lady and layers cut at 5.25"  - Cricut Cartridge Everyday pop-up cards
Give me some luv on this one people (in other words...some comments)

Upscale Instant Scrapbook for Kara's Baby Girl

(Page 2 and 3 of 20)

I love a good 2 page layout! This base design was designed by Embellish It! During the class we put together the left hand page. I then bought the kit for the right hand page at the vendor show. I learned how to extend design elements so that the two pages look seamless even though there actually is a break between the pages. This type of layering, flowering making and design esthetic are now a part of my repetoire. It was a fast-paced fun class. I highly recommend Creating Keepsakes conferences.

I never create layouts without a purpose. So all the layouts from the classes I attended sat in my cabinet for months. Then, the opportunity to create a gift album for my friend Kara came about. She was a mom who wasn't as in to the pink baby girl themes. This type of sophisticated layout was just what the doctor ordered! So I added several embellishments, including the pregnant lady on the right, to create the 9 months layout. The pregnant lady, cut from Cricut Cartridge Everyday Pop Up, has followed Kara through her pregnancy. I used her on the congrats your preggers card, her blessingway invite and now in her instant scrapbook. These pages will highlight the 3 trimesters of pregnancy to show how the mom grew over the months. An opaque pen could be used to journal in untraditional places. This layout was perfectly received.

Stay tuned...

Upscale Instant Scrapbook for Kara's Baby Girl

My good friend Kara and her husband are having their first baby, a girl, this month. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the planning to shower the parents. One of my gifts for the family was an instant scrapbook. I had planned to make it super baby themed and pink, with added pink on top of pink....until she told me ...

she doesn't care for pink or baby themes!

Can you imagine??? Dreams deferred, I decided to use layouts I created during classes at the Creating Keepsakes Convention in Valley Forge PA and the Creating Keepsakes Scrap 'n Play in Lancaster, PA to create the look I knew this family would love! Here we go....

The first page of the scrapbook will highlight the couple's love story. This scrapbook page made out of chipboard, paper, ribbon and acrylic accents started as a make 'n take at the Quick Quotes booth that I assembled at home. They had really cool spritz that gives this layout a gold tone. We colored the acrylic accents with ink as well.

Trick or Treat?

My first grader is an avid reader, so when the oppotunity arose to lead the Halloween craft at her school, I signed up. With a 15 min. timeframe tops for 23 children it was a hard decision to make. I wondered which craft can I effectively lead in such a short time? I decided that a bookmark would be an efficent craft with an effective use.

This is the first bookmark I've made using the Cricut. It was so quick and easy. The bookmark base is cut from black DCWV chipboard. The Cricut Circle exclusive cart Sophie has many bookmark shapes. I used LABL10 cut at 6" and used a Stampin' Up! stamp from the holiday best set. My new favorite opaque white ink is archival brilliance - moonlight white. It stamped a vivid white impression on the black chipboard without fail.

The bookmark was topped with a 2-layer monster from Cricut Cartridge Mini Monsters - gross cut at 2". The top layer is blue DCWV metallic cardstock. Adding the 4mm google eyes just set it off! The children went to town decorating the bookmark with designs using opaque colored markers and pens by American Crafts, Marvy and Inkssentials. Lastly, we added a shimmer to the bookmarks by adding Tsukineko sheer shimmer sprtiz - frost.

I cut and stamped the bookmarks, ran the blue layer of the ghost through the xyron and added the google eyes to mini glue dots ahead of time, but the children assembled and adorned it all in class.

good planning + good execution = huge crafting success!

Instant scrapbook baby boy - Hester

This last page of the scrapbook is a space for writing a heartfelt letter about the baby's impact on the family. Starting with Bazzill cardstock, I layered DCWV border strip and the scallop square. with the addition of dimensional stickers, definition stickers and brads with alpha vellum stickers to complete the page. And with that...this scrapbook is complete.

In this 1st birthday layout I used provo craft alphabet themed paper and several jolee's dimensional stickers. I love adding definition stickers to my layouts, The polka dot mat is from SEI and the ribbon with the eyelets and other embellishments are from my stash.

I used Mosaic Moments grid paper to create this mosaic using my cuttlebug and one of the embossing folders from the birthday bash set. I really like how this came out. The layout can fit 2 to 3 pictures based on size to highlight the birthday boy.

Instant scrapbook baby boy - hester

Using Mosaic Moment grid paper I created this mosaic scrapbook page to capture the baby milestones that were not recorded on other scrapbook pages in this book. I printed the grass and stones paper from my Cricut Imagine Cartridge Snapshot - Nature. It looks better than the single sheet you can buy in the store and its much cheaper too.

The first row shows the first bath, rolling over, first tooth.

next is the first solid food, crawling and first steps.

I chose to highlight the secular side of Easter in this layout. I had some neutral colored Easter stickers in my stash and couldn't wait to use them. Bazzill blue cardstock in the base with brown accent. The mat is DCWV adhesvie mat stack. The dotted paper and the colorful border are from my stash. The eggs were cut from Cricut Easter cartridge. I added ink on the edges and rub ons to spell Easter. The eggs are raised up on foam tape. The punch by EK Success did not cut all the way through in spots and made its own unique pattern. I plan to punch some tin foil to sharpen those parts that aren't cutting.

This is a bad picture of the whole layout, but at least you can see the real colors in the above picture.

Instant scrapbook baby boy- Hester

Anna giffin makes this paper lace (peyton collection). I thought it was befitting this layout about his first valentine's day. In my family we give our babies vday cards and they go in the keepsake box. It's a nice tradition and a way to show love. The paper lace is attached with spray adhesive to brown bazzill cardstock. The blue layer is hand cut and adorned with faux stitiching made with my zig millenium pen. The scallop square is DCWV as well. I love these chenille brads from Nikki Sivils Scrapbooker and had to add them in red to this layout. The adhesive alphabet was in my stash. Lastly, I added a journaling block 6-min scrapbooker with a 100% boy dimensional sticker. Not too girlie and gets the point across. All we need is a picture of Harrison & journaling to complete the page.

Instant scrapbook baby boy - Hester

Who doesn't love baby's first Christmas? This 2-page layout brings across the whimsy and joy of the holiday season. DCWV has created beautiful double-sided card stock. It was really hard to decide which side to use and which to sacrifice. DCWV was used for the base pages and mats in this layout.

A few Jolee's dimensional stickers were added to being across the Christmas theme. The DCWV cardstock was already fully adorned.

Ribbon tape creates a bridge betweent the mat and the base cardstock. My favorite embellishment is the bow and real jingle bell added to the tree top. When the page is shaken the bells ring.
